Stradbroke Island Science Camps

The Moreton Bay Research Station and Study Centre on North Stradbroke Island provides educational programs for High School students from all over Australia. Education officer, Dr Kathy Townsend, has developed a significant number of learning modules covering marine and land based topics to keep enquiring minds busy.

Experience Science @ UQ

CMS supports a number of BACS faculty initiatives one of which is the "Experience Science" workshops for secondary school students.

High Schools from Queensland and northern NSW are invited to "Experience" science at the University of Queensland and gain an understanding of what it is like to be a university student for a day.
Students get a brief introduction to the University and a presentation from one of the faculty's leading researchers before splitting up into smaller "hands on workshops".

The Centre Director Prof Ove Hoegh Guldberg has previously given a talk on Climate Change and The Effect on Coral Reefs. Centre staff backed this up with a workshop on the effect of temperature on coral organisms using state of the art photosynthesis measuring devices called PAMs (Pulse Amplitude Modulators)
Visit the BACS faculty "Experience Science" website for more information.
