NEWS - Marine Studies

QETI Award 2008

The Centre for Marine Studies has a distinguished record in the field of international education.

All study packages for international students and student groups are designed to make the most of the wonderful marine life that abounds on the Queensland coast. Students can expect to spend time at our premier research stations on Moreton Bay and the Great Barrier Reef. The staff at the Centre for Marine Studies and associated faculties include leaders in many fields of marine studies.

Please contact Study@cms.uq.edu.au at the Centre for Marine Studies for more information on International Programs or if you are interested in establishing a partnership at a University level with the Centre.

International Students are also welcome to enrol in Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies at the University of Queensland.

STUDY ABROADSnorkelling at Heron Island

MARS2005 - Australian Marine Environments (Semesters 1 & 2; 2 unit course)

No Prerequisites

No Assumed biology knowledge

This semester-long course introduces students to the plethora of life in tropical and subtropical Australian seas. It covers the origins of Australian marine biodiversity and the ecological processes that support estuarine, coastal and reef systems. The course, aimed at the 'non-science student', comprises lectures and field trips to Moreton Bay Research Station and Heron Island Research Station, runs each semester and is open to all Study Abroad students and Australian students not enrolled through the Faculty of Science.

The companion program to MARS2005 is BIOL2001 - Australia's Terrestrial Environments and is recommended for Study Abroad students.

 

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS Stanford Students on Low Isles

The Centre for Marine Studies co-ordinates non-award courses (duration 8 - 20 weeks) in marine biology, terrestrial ecology and Australian culture for study groups from a number of overseas universities and colleges.

Current program partners include:

- University of California (EAP)
- Stanford University (OSP)

- Hobart William Smith & Union College (Upstate New York)(CGE)

Courses feature:

- field trips from Reef and Rainforest
- excursions to cultural sites with talks by local indigenous representitives
- a comprehensive  and academically challenging lecture series
- all catering, accommodation and travel
